About Us

How it all began BRC Photo collage

Thirty years ago the idea of the Centre started in Nadine’s living room with groups for yoga for pregnancy and friendly, caring support. As the women had their babies they wished to continue to meet and postnatal sessions soon started.  From this the Pregnancy and Parents Centre (formally Birth Resource Centre) has grown and developed over the years in response to what pregnant women, partners and parents have told us that they and their families need during pregnancy, childbirth and beyond.

We believe that our sessions are special because of our knowledge of pregnancy, birth and early parenthood and experience in supporting women is incorporated into all of our sessions. The sessions always finish with discussions about pregnancy, birth, parenting and any issues brought up by the group over tea and biscuits. This allows to you get to know others in the group, develop your knowledge about birth, and share experiences with other women.

Ethos

The Centre welcomes everyone whatever your circumstances, background, sexual orientation, family makeup or beliefs. We strive to make sure our classes are accessible to parents and parents-to-be with particular needs such as mobility needs.

The Centre runs on a not-for-profit basis because we think that money shouldn’t be made out of people having children.  We do have to cover our costs though and have a variety of ways to do this.  Many of our services are free and our sessions are run on a donation basis or a sliding scale of fees so we never turn anyone away due to financial constraint.  Please contact our staff who will be happy to help and discuss particular requirements.

For more details please see our Aims, Objectives and Values

The Centre is ran by our Acting Co-ordinators with the help of our admin assistants.  Please contact them if you would like to know more about  the background of the Centre or to come along to a session.
