Hello,
If you would like to find out how Homeopathy could be of help to you please just get in touch. I’d love to hear from you.
So what is Homeopathy ?
Homeopathy is a system of complementary, energetic medicine. The word Homeopathy comes from two Greek words, “homoios” and “pathos” meaning “similar suffering.” One of the fundamental Homeopathic principles is “Like cures like” or the Law of Similars. This idea dates back to Hippocrates (c 460 – 370 BC) and was used in Ancient Eygyptian and Greek medicine.
It means if a substance can make you ill in large, material amounts then smaller, specially prepared doses, can help you get well by stimulating your self-healing abilities.
For example:
- Coffee is a stimulant and can make us more energised, buzzing and stay awake longer. It can also cause insomnia by making us over-excited and wound up. Homeopathically prepared Coffea is one remedy we could use for sleep problems.
- Cutting onions can cause your eyes to stream with watery tears and your nose to feel raw with a burning discharge. You may find it difficult to think or concentrate well – like having a bad cold or some kinds of hay fever. Allium – cepa, or Red Onion, is a remedy that might help you with those symptoms.
History
Samuel Hahnemann, a German physician (1755 – 1843), created the system of medicine we call Homeopathy.
As a doctor he was shocked by the harshness of many medical treatments, so he looked at ways to reduce toxic and damaging side effects. He observed that some drugs had similar symptoms to the illnesses they were used to treat. This intrigued Hahnemann. So he began to experiment on himself and with students, testing increasingly diluted medicines and observing the effects on healthy volunteers.
The more he reduced and diluted the substances, the more effective the medicines became. He continued to test, observe and document his research.
These scientific findings and experiences became the foundations of Homeopathy’s philosophy and practice. So Homeopathy has over two hundred years of observation, exploration and clinical experience.
Millions of people worldwide now use Homeopathy.
There are thousands of Homeopathic remedies, made from a huge range of sources in nature and the world around us, including many different plants, minerals and elements. Remedies carry the pattern of the source substance as well as different levels of energy or potency. Each remedy is prescribed depending on what is most appropriate for you.
How will it benefit me and my baby/children ?
Many of us look for holistic and different ways to support our health and well-being when pregnant or have a new baby, and we want safe, non-toxic holistic solutions.
Homoeopathic remedies are non-toxic, safe and gentle and so are ideal for use during pregnancy, while breastfeeding and for babies and children.
There are many so-called “minor” complaints of pregnancy which we don’t need to just get on with – like heartburn, nausea, ligament and pelvic pain as well as anxieties, fears and uncertainties.
What these symptoms are like for you important, what these are and what makes you feel better or worse are clues to which remedy might help you.
We can explore other support and tools to have available during your labour and for immediately post-birth.
After birth, remedies can aid your normal physical healing, or are helpful for emotional and physical support after more difficult birth experiences, for both ourselves and our babies.
For pregnancy, the post-natal weeks, any breastfeeding problems, unsettled “colicky” babies, teething or sleepless babies, you could try homeopathy.
Or even help with conditions like diarrhoea, digestive problems, ear infections, respiratory tract infections and eczema.
