What is Baby and Toddler Music with Jackie?
The PPC Music sessions are live and interactive led by Jackie and her guitar. They involve singing and music making, movement and most of all fun! Sessions are tailored to each age group to help stimulate and develop your child’s senses and abilities.
Age appropriate activities range from clapping, bouncing and tapping with young babies through to going on sound journeys through story telling with the 3 and 4 year olds. And in between there are percussion instruments to explore; stimulating multi sensory props and puppets, and balls, hoops and the parachute to have fun with in a musical context. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we are running our sessions online and as such, some of the activities are restricted in terms of props but Jackie will always let you know if there is a theme in advance of the class so you can bring the appropriate props with you.
The sessions are on Mondays and Thursday. Check the table below to see which session would suit your family.
These are rough guidelines to the age of the group and are flexible depending on the stage of your child. If you have 2 or more children please choose the age range to suit your oldest child and their younger siblings can come along to that class to join in the fun. The family class activities aim to involve all children in the session.

How will it benefit my little one?
The emphasis of all classes is on the child’s experience of music. For music to be understood it has to be felt so it is important that we create the feel of the beat for our children (particularly when they are young). Engaging with our children in this way will help to foster musical comprehension, coordination and expressive sensitivity.
The sessions go further than just helping to develop musical understanding, the sessions encourage basic communication skills such as waving or pointing and the ability to share. Recent research has shown that classes involving interactive music-making and learning set songs benefit babies and young children than listening to recorded music. You can see further information on this research at http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/05/120509123653.htm
How will it benefit me / my partner?
The Music sessions here at the PPC are very much a social and fun time. It is a great opportunity for parents not just to bond with their child but also to meet other parents, to make friends and share experiences.
All of our sessions include time for parents to have a cup of tea and get to know one another. We hear from many parents that they have met good friends for themselves as well as their children in the PPC music sessions.

What to expect
The classes are relaxed and friendly. We encourage you to sit on the floor with pillows for comfort. Each session begins with every child being welcomed with Jackie singing. Parents/carers are encouraged to interact with their child doing actions with them, helping them to play instruments etc. A range of different songs are sung but are repeated over the weeks so everyone gets to know them. At the end of each class there is “social” time for parents to stay online and chat. For our usual face to face sessions, refreshments are made for you by Jackie so you can chat to others in the group but for online groups, you might want to make a cuppa and bring a snack for the wee ones to enjoy with others in the group.
More Information and How to Book
If you are interested in joining a session please get in touch with us to check if there is a space. We run the music classes during holidays as well so if you are interested in joining a summer music class please get in touch to be added to the interest list for this.
Payment
Once you have a space on the music classes you can continue coming along for as long as you wish or until your baby is ready to move up to the next age group. Usually, for 6 consecutive weeks it is £45 per adult and child which includes the song sheets to take home, tea and biscuits. If siblings are coming along we charge half price once they are mobile and able to join in.
However, due to the current Covid-19 virus we appreciate that many of your income levels will be lower and so we are suggesting a donation of £36 for the six week block. Please note that we never turn anyone away due to financial restrictions and so if you feel this is unaffordable, do get in touch; we will come to an arrangement that ensures you can attend our sessions.
As with all our sessions we have a number of rates to allow all families to attend despite their financial circumstances. Please get in touch if you would like to know more information about this.
For more information on the sessions including the structure, benefits and further testimonials please see Jackie’s website
What other parents say about the classes
“Music is the highlight of our week! I love the fact that we sing original songs and that we are accompanied by real music (Jackie with her wonderful voice and guitar) rather than a backing tape. ”
“The fact that I have a huge repertoire of songs has saved me from many a meltdown and it’s lovely to be able to teach friends and family sweet, different and entertaining tunes.”
“I have no doubt that this class has helped my daughter’s confidence, language development and co-ordination – turn taking, sharing and being nice to each other is all encouraged. The cup of tea and blether after the class is also a wonderful way to meet new mums and catch up with the lovely friends you make from coming along. “
