Feedback from our pregnancy sessions suggests that women are often not aware of the supportive role of the Supervisor of Midwives (SOM), or of the leaflet about the role of Midwifery Supervision, that they should receive in early pregnancy.
Supervisors of Midwives are experienced, practising midwives who have undertaken additional education. A Supervisor of Midwives is always available and contactable, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week in all areas of the UK. The SOM is there to support, guide and supervise midwives, as well as to support women, and can be contacted directly by women.
A leaflet is available online

The SOM can be particularly helpful if women and/or midwives are feeling in need of more support.
You can contact a Supervisor Of Midwives through the switchboard at either:
St John’s Hospital, Livingston – Tel : 01506 523 000
or
Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health, Edinburgh – Tel : 0131 536 1000
Please also contact us if we can be of support.
