Yoga for Pregnancy

What to expect in our  online yoga for pregnancy sessions

Our yoga for pregnancy sessions offer a unique approach to enjoying your pregnancy, preparing for the birth of your baby and for parenthood.

The sessions begin with a relaxing meditation. This is followed by yoga which focuses on breathing awareness, and letting go of tension and life’s stresses and strains. It also includes yoga postures and movements designed to relieve pregnancy symptoms, enhance wellbeing and the connection with your baby. It’s an opportunity to get to know your own body and tap into your own resources and knowledge. The sessions conclude with facilitated discussion around pregnancy, birth and earlyparenting topics, guided by the interests of the women in each group. These discussions enable you todevelop your knowledge, get to know others in the group, and share experiences if you want to.

We believe that our sessions are special because our knowledge of birth and local maternity services is integral to what we offer; each facilitator is both trained and experienced in birth education and running
groups.

Our groups are inclusive and welcoming, and whilst you can’t come to our centre during Covid-19 and enjoy this cosy and comfortable space, with lots of pillows, stools, yoga balls, blocks and mats, we will maintain our ethos of being inclusive and welcoming albeit from a distance.

Our approach makes yoga safe for all women whether they are new to yoga or not. Women can join at any stage of pregnancy and with their first or subsequent pregnancies.

How will the sessions benefit me and my baby?
Our yoga for pregnancy sessions contribute to good overall health, reduced anxiety, increased confidence and building supportive networks. We hope that our groups help women to prepare for positive births, regardless of what they’re planning.

Some women find that they sleep better, and feel relief from common pregnancy symptoms such as
heartburn, backache, cramp, swollen feet, poor posture etc.

Pregnancy can be quite an emotional journey. Our sessions aim to help women feel safe and calm as they
meet these challenges. Consequently, babies benefit too.

Payment
We offer our yoga for pregnancy sessions on a donation system because the Pregnancy and Parents
Centre is a not-for-profit charity.  We ask women to pay for 6 weeks at a time and to let us know when
they wish to give up their space. You can pay in advance for only one or two sessions at the end of your
pregnancy. The suggested donation for 6 consecutive weeks is usually £65 but due to the current Covid-19 virus we appreciate that many of your income levels will be lower and so we are suggesting a donation of £52 for the six week block.   Please note that we never turn anyone away due to financial restrictions and so if you feel this is unaffordable, do get in touch; we will come to an arrangement that ensures you can attend our sessions.

What other women thought of the class

the yoga classes were an important part of my pregnancy. Yoga and the discussions afterwards helped me maintain a relaxed approach throughout the pregnancy and gave so much knowledge.”

special thanks for the wealth of knowledge & support throughout my pregnancy, I learnt more from the yoga sessions than any book I could ever read.  I don’t know what I would have done without the class, it gave me so much reassurance and guidance and I am very lucky to have had it on my doorstep.  You all do such an excellent job for all the lovely expecting mums!”

our yoga teacher is wonderful at really listening to everyone who comes and alters the class accordingly.  I don’t have any pregnant friends so simply being in a space and place where others are sharing the same experiences as I am is wonderfully reassuring.”
